Security

If you have been the victim of some kind of vandalism or if you have noticed any suspicious activity please take care to perform the following steps:

  • Report the issue to the local police at 703-691-2131.
  • Report the incident to Capitol Property Management. Reporting the issue to our property management company will allow them to take the appropriate course of action if, for example, there has been an unusual increase in suspicious activity.
  • Consider posting a message in the Neighborhood Watch section in the Forums page of the Regal Oaks website or on Nextdoor.

  Preventative Security Measures

  1. It is not uncommon for thieves to check vehicles, especially unlocked ones, for valuables so be sure to not leave valuables in your car and of course keep your doors and windows to your home secured as well.
  2. Keep your lights on at night or install motion-sensing lights or lamps that are in accordance with the architectural policies.
  3. Get to know your neighbors! One of the most effective ways to combat crime in any neighborhood is to be aware of who does and does not belong there. In addition, knowing your neighbors helps everyone feel an obligation to watch out for one another.

Safety

  • Please mind the posted speed limit in the neighborhood. If you notice anyone speeding, don't be afraid to ask them to slow down.
  • Please refrain from parking along any yellow painted curbs or yellow striped areas of the parking lot. These areas are reserved fire lanes. If you park in any of these areas, your car will be subject to towing.
  • Report any potential safety issues to Capitol Property Management.
  • According to the U.S. Fire Administration, the average life for smoke alarms is 8-10 years. Take a few minutes and replace your battery at least annually and test the alarm periodically according to the instructions included with the unit.
